Learning English is Becoming Harder During the Pandemic for Children

Jan 20, 2021

Hello Everyone!

I hope everyone is doing well despite being in the second or third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. Please stay safe during these difficult times!

I have an article for you today about the pandemic. I'm sure many of you have observed this happening, but it is becoming harder for children who want to learn English to feel confident using English. This is very true for children who are living in a foreign country where they are learning English as a foreign language as they attend school with other children, both native and non-native English speakers. Now though, they are not attending school but are instead taking remote lessons.

In fact, this might be happening even with adult students who are living and working abroad, but also for students who still live in their native country. People are having more and more trouble using the English they want to learn because it is harder to find people to talk to.

You can read the article here: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/29/nyregion/coronavirus-english-language-students.html

What do you think children should do who live in a foreign country and still want to learn the language? How can people still study and improve their language skills despite the pandemic? (Obviously there are online English lessons like here on Cafetalk, but are there other methods as well?)

Have a great day~
Tracy
