My 3 relaxing favorite places in Buea

Sarah Nam

I just heard your loud question, where is Buea? I agree you might never have heard of it and can definitely not guess where it is located. I will tell you where it is.

Buea is the foothill city of Cameroon's biggest mountain, West Africa's tallest. It is the capital city of the Anglophone South West Region.

As a native of this city, I have the following places as favorites among the variety and diversity of places I have visited to relax.

1. Mount Cameroon

Commonly termed Mount Fako, the scenic view of this gigantic land structure has been the focus of several tourists visiting the city.

Also, because it makes the city cold and fresh, historically it was proven that the first foreigners (colonialists)settled there.

Its unique view at the top called summit is breathtaking and worth a million for hikers. I was extremely exhausted when I hiked with my family, there but it was worth my time when I saw some beautiful exceptional flowers growing amidst the harsh cold weather.

February is the best month to visit the Buea mountain because it's within the dry season. The mountain is not extremely cold and you can participate in the annual Mount Cameroon Race of Hope. I can help you with information if you are interested to visit.

2 The University of Buea

This is Cameroon's oldest English Speaking (Anglo-Saxon) university. It has been reputed to cater for all Cameroonians and foreigners especially English Speaking Cameroonians.

Given Cameroon was colonized by the French and British, 80  percent of Cameroonians are French-speaking, whilst 20 percent are native English speakers. It's always challenging for Anglophones to study in the universities of French regions, thus the University of Buea has catered for their needs with ease in their language.

The simple architectural edifies and the long walk into the campus could be a good exercise to discover how Cameroon's education system operates.

3. Buea stadium

Finally, making a tour of the Buea stadium could be a way to experience Cameroonian culture.

Cameroon is Africa's miniature - it has extremely diverse ethnic groups and features. Most of these cultural events are held alongside football matches and it's delightful to watch the colorfulness.

The small field commonly called the Molyko Omnisport Stadium is always filled to maximum capacity when there is a football match.

Cameroonians love watching 'soccer' as Americans will call it and they enjoy friendly discussions and drinking. There are several bars, snacks, and restaurants all around the city with affordable meals (2USD) for every guest.

A visit to Buea will be a worthy experience and an easy trip because everything I mentioned can be seen beside the one main road leading to the city.

Visit Buea and tell me what you think.
