For better or worse, I am not a particularly ‘goal oriented’ person, in the sense that I am not someone who consciously sets goals for myself and then strives to achieve them. When I am motivated, of course, I try my best to succeed, but I am not the kind of person who normally sets goals at the beginning of the year, or resolutions, or anything like that.
Having said that, 2020 was not a normal year for anyone, and as a result I did have some things I wanted to achieve over the course of 2021, and I’d like to talk about one of them here.
Like many people, I had friendships that suffered in the first year of the pandemic. With lockdowns in many places around the globe, and milder restrictions and government recommendations in others, the natural schedule of meeting up with friends was broken, and without these periodic meetings the friendships themselves began to weaken, like a flower that hasn’t been watered.
For this reason, I was determined, whenever possible, to spend time with friends this year to maintain the connections that had been damaged by a year in isolation. In some ways I was successful, in others unsuccessful, but overall I think I did pretty well.
One thing that helped was getting some friends into Formula One - the races provided a good excuse and a ready-made schedule for meeting up; it helped that it was the most exciting season for almost ten years!
How have your friendships been doing over the past two years? If you would like to talk about it, book a Conversation and Correction class!
