The other day my student said "See you in Tues". Maybe you know it should be "See you
on Tues". I realized it's not that strange that he got it confused since we often use "in" for times. Let's see when we use "in" or "on" (or others).
When do we use "in"? For names of months, years, an amount of time...
I met you:
I'll see you:
- in a month
- in a few minutes
- in 3 weeks
- in a year
When do we use "on"? For days of the week or days of the month:
I will talk to you:
- on Thursday
- on the 16th
- on the last day of the month
Have you ever heard someone say "I'll see you Thur"? Yup, more casually we can omit "on".
We also use "at", for exact times.
My appointment is:
- at 2pm.
- at quarter to five (4:45)
Thanks for reading and hope it was helpful,
Cecily
