My first summer in California - and I saw taiko!

Weekly Topic: Plans for summer!

Ruth Victorine

Will you visit the beach this summer? I hope you can.

I love the beach. When I was a child, my family and I would go to a beautiful beach in Wales every summer. The sea was very cold, but I loved swimming and looking at rock pools.

Because I live near the coast in California now, I am so thankful that I can go to many different beaches.
So far, I have been to:

Capitola...

Del Monte...

And Santa Cruz!

I passed my US driving test a couple of weeks ago so, this summer, I hope I can drive to more beaches. (It is strange driving on the right-hand side of the road. In the UK and Japan, I liked driving on the left.

Some people think that summer really begins in June. The weather gets a lot better. On June 1st, I went to the Marina Multi-Cultural Festival. The weather wasn’t great, but the festival was.

There were flags from all over the world, and there was a Japanese booth. I was happy to meet Japanese people living in Monterey, who were proud of Japan and wanted to show cultural items to visitors. I also watched a taiko performance. It was wonderful.

How will you be spending summer? Will you be going to any festivals?
