Have you ever made a phone call in a foreign language?
外国語で電話をかけたことがあるでしょうか？
It can be challenging, but if you learn some common phrases it can become a lot easier.
難しいかもしれないが、よく使われるフレーズを覚えれば、かなり楽になります。
Let’s look at some useful phrases.

In this situation you want to call your client (her name is Mary Smith) to confirm the time of a meeting next week.
このような状況で、あなたはクライアント（彼女の名前はメアリー・スミス [Mary Smith]）に電話をかけ、来週のミーティングの時間を確認したいです。
1)
You make a phone call to your client’s company. The receptionist answers the phone.
あなたはクライアントの会社に電話をかけます。受付係が電話に出ました。
To introduce yourself on the phone, say your name, your company name, and who you would like to speak to.
電話での自己紹介は、自分の名前、会社名、話したい相手を言います。
(Your name is Bob Jones)
(あなたの名前はBob Jones)
“Good morning, my name is Bob Jones from ABC Company. Could I speak to Mary Smith please?”
（「おはようございます、ABC社のBob Jonesと申します。Mary Smithさんをお願いできますか？」）

If Mary Smith is available, the receptionist will transfer you.
Mary Smithの手が空いていれば、受付係が繋ぎます。
When you speak to Mary, you should first let her know who you are and why you are calling. “I’m calling about....” is a useful phrase.
Maryに話しかけるときは、まずあなたが誰で、なぜ電話しているのかを伝えます。“I’m calling about....”は便利なフレーズです。
“Good morning, it’s Bob Jones from ABC Company. I’m calling about next week’s meeting.”
（「おはようございます、ABC社のBob Jonesです。来週のミーティングについて電話しました。」）
3)
If you and Mary have a close relationship, you can ask “how are you?”.
Maryと親しい間柄であれば、“how are you?”と聞いてもいいです。
“Hi Mary, it’s Bob from ABC Company.”
“Hi Bob, how are you?”
“I’m good thanks, how are you?”
“I’m great, thanks."
“Great, I’m calling about next week’s meeting.”
