My favourite season has always been fall. In Ontario, there are many things I like to do every fall, and here are my top five:
1. Picking and eating apples
Many varieties of apples are grown in Ontario. My favourites are Cortland and McIntosh. I like to pick them, and I like to eat them. Usually, I eat them raw or make applesauce.
2. Enjoying fall produce
Fall in Ontario offers many delicious vegetables, pickles, and preserves. Pumpkins are a favourite for soups and stews; I also enjoy the seeds roasted.
3. Being in the garden
Many birds, bees, and other wildlife are active in my native plant garden well into the fall. I enjoy watching all the activity, and admiring all the beautiful plants. Two plants whose yellow blossoms brighten up my garden in fall are Common sneezeweed and Goldenrod, both popular with bees.
4. Hiking and walking
Fall is a full five-senses season, and hiking and walking in nature is a great way to appreciate the sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and touches of the season. Fall is the sight of beautiful leaves, especially maple trees. Fall is the call of geese overhead as they fly south. Fall is the smell of fallen leaves and the taste of delicious trail snacks enjoyed on the go. Fall is the coziness of sweaters keeping me warm against chill breezes.
5. Spending time with family and friends
In Canada Thanksgiving is in October, so is my birthday, and, of course, Halloween as well. Fall is a busy time at my house with plenty of opportunities to gather and celebrate.
Do you like apples, vegetables, gardens, hiking, and celebrating? What fun things do you like to do in Fall? I would love to chat with you about your favourite activities. Come have an English conversation with me.
