LESSON PLAN FOR 2ND LESSON
LEVEL: Intermediate DURATION: 60 minutes
Business/Materials
1. Materials Pack worksheets & city fact files
2. A quote or quotation “Travel and see”
3. Travel guide, maps of London, vacation brochures, photos of parts of London
3 An audio recording of a conversation on air travel.
4. A list of terms on aviation & travel e.g. pilot, hostess, taxing, cockpit, visa on the whiteboard.
Lesson Objectives
1. Students will learn some vocabulary on air travel.
2. Students will be able to plan for air travel for a vacation to London.
3. Students will learn to speak about air travel for a vacation in London.
Warm-up and Objective Discussion
Review the student’s knowledge of the quote “Travel and see” & some benefits of travelling discussed during the previous lesson.
Using questions, ask student what he/she would like to do when on a holiday in London.
Write up the ideas & activities on the whiteboard e.g. go shopping, go to a museum, go to watch a football match.
Let the student rank the activities in order of importance.
Inform the student that today he/she will learn to speak based on planning an air travel for a vacation in London.
Explain to the student that at the end of the lesson, he/she will speak on planning an air travel for a vacation in London,
Instruct and Model
1. Draw the attention of the student to some terms on the white-board and ask him/her to pronounce the items – e.g. pilot, hostess, taxing, cockpit, and visa. Let him/her know the pronunciation and meaning of the words.
2. Explain to the student briefly how an airplane works using the correct terms – boarding, taxing, cruising, landing & disembark.
3. Guide the student to plan for the air travel & the vacation – Booking tickets, Hotel reservation, Reservation for tourist sites & transport, Visa, Inoculation, Currency, packing your luggage etc.
4. With the help of travel guide, maps of London, vacation brochures, photos of parts of London ask the student questions to let him/her do some speaking while you correct errors.
5. Play an audio recording of a conversation on air travel & ask the student questions to test his/her understanding
Guided Practice
1. Write some questions on the whiteboard. Read them out & let the student answer them orally:
a) What game do you like to play?
b) Would you prefer a window seat or middle seat in an airplane?
c) Would you like some cake or some potato chips?
d) Which place would you like to visit in London?
Independent Practice
1. Let the student write out a final plan for air travel for a vacation in London.
2. Let the student read out the plan.
Assessment:
Let the student take a quiz on some of the terms learnt on air travel and vacation
