Lesson
A **family** is a group of people who are related to each other by blood, marriage, or adoption. The most common family unit is the nuclear family**, which consists of a mother, a father, and their children. However, families can take many different forms and include various members.
Here are some common terms used to refer to members of a family:
- **Parents**: Refers to the mother and father of a child or children
- **Children**: Refers to the offspring of parents
- **Siblings**: Refers to brothers and sisters
- **Grandparents**: Refers to the parents of one's parents.
- **Great-grandparents**: Refers to the parents of one's grandparents
- **Husband**: Refers to a married man
- **Wife**: Refers to a married woman
- **Daughter**: Refers to a female child or offspring
- **Son: Refers to a male child or offspring
