English-language American History Course 2: "Manifest Destiny"
Lesson Pack Details
Lessons should generally be booked chronologically, meaning that the second lesson should be booked after the first, and so on.
Description
This course is conducted entirely in English.
The English Language American History Course 2 focuses on the concept of "Manifest Destiny" and how it influenced America's expansion, as well as the effects that expansion had on other cultures, before the year 1861. Topics will include:
-Early American expansion
-Louisiana Purchase and the Discovery Expedition
-Early conflicts with Native Americans
-War of 1812
-Indian Removal and the Trail of Tears
-Mexican-American War
-The Gold Rush
Each lesson in this pack will focus on one of these periods, in chronological order (that is, from earliest to latest).
Students will recieve at least one (and occasionally more) pre-lesson reading assignment to give them some insight into the content of the lesson itself. Lesson content will consist mainly of a slide presentation, along with general discussion and questions about the topics/events within the presentation. After the lesson, the student will be expected to either write or record a reflection on the completed lesson of approximately one paragraph in length. The prompt for this reflection will be provided at the end of the lesson by the tutor.
This course is perfect for those looking to increase their knowledge of American history for whatever reasons they may have. It is also useful to those looking to improve their writing, speaking, and general English skills in a non-traditional manner of practice.
Currently, proficiency in English is required for these courses.
