WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO IN THIS LESSON?
IS READING ALWAYS THE BEST?
Reading is a great way to give your kid some input. However reading in a second language is not the easiest thing. If done wrongly, it can be pointless.
According to linguist Stephen Krashen, input to learn a langauge must be "comprehensible". This means the material must be at least 70 - 90% understood by your child to be able to be effectively absorbed and learnt. On the contrary, if the material is too difficult, your child may be overwhelmed and give it up all together.
Thus, the books read in this class are carefully chosen to fit your child's language level so that they can effectively learn and retain English.
WHAT KIND OF BOOKS DO YOU USE?
In this lesson I will be using 2 kinds of books:
1. A video book platform called VOOKS
The video books includes lots of moving pictures in a video books to capture your child's attention. This is a service that I bought to provide interesting and native material to my students.
2. My self-created children stories
I write funny and interesting books that introduceds a certain crucial grammar point that helps your children in conversations. (e.g. used to ., to do something, going to do something) The stories are carefully crafted to include lots of repetitions so that your child can absorb it better.
Examples of the pages in my self-created stories:
- Read out loud
- Have fun guided conversations
- Discussions (if your child's level of English allows)

The lesson focuses on the grammar "to" to indicate purpose. After reading this page, I will ask "Why do you go to the park?". The child will then have a model answer to answer me and is able to build on it easily.
