Hello and welcome! in this lesson we will talk about the languages used in Algeria and how they were introduced to the country.
Most Algerian people speak at least two languages in addition to several specific regional dialects, the reasons behind that can be found in the history of the country and it's colonization by several diferent empires and countries.
The official languages in Algeria is arabic, but the language we use in everyday life is a specific dialect born in Algeria called "darja", it is a mix of several languages and can be considered a protolanguage, it's creation is the result of centuries of different colonization compaigns that date back to the 8th century AD.
In this lesson i will be explaining in English why and how so many languages are used in Algeria as well as give you an overview of my country and paint you a picture of everyday life in Algeria.
I will be using a powerpoint presentation, and will do my best to answer any questions you have, if you want to learn about my country this lesson is for you.
