Richard Evans Tutor Interview

Q. Hi Richard! Thank you for taking the time to do this interview. May we ask you to briefly introduce yourself?

A. My Name is Richard Evans. I'm 38 years old and will be 39 this year. I have been teaching English now for 3 years and 6 Months.

Q. Please tell us more about your hometown and the area where you currently reside.

A. I'm from Wales in the UK where I lived for 35 years. Wales is a small country with beautiful nature. To the North there is Snowdonia the 3rd largest mountain in the UK where you can enjoy hikes and see the amazing views of surrounding countryside and to the South West there are beautiful golden beaches where you can relax by sunbathing on the beach, surfing, swimming and diving in the sea.

I have now been living in Japan for 3 years and 6 months. I lived in Shizuoka Ken for 3 years and enjoyed the humid climate and friendly atmosphere in the cities and towns. I recently moved to Shiga Ken near Lake Biwako and it is 20 minutes via train from Kyoto. Where I will be working from July.

Q. What motivated you to become a tutor on Cafetalk?

A. I was motivated to become a tutor on Cafetalk to meet new people online and help people understand and learn English.

Q. What are you usually up to when you're not teaching on Cafetalk? What are your hobbies and interests?

A. I have various hobbies that include studying Japanese, cooking a variety of multicultural foods. Various sporting and fitness activities, hiking and exploring historical landmarks in Japan.

Q. A lot of students are probably curious about the atmosphere in your lessons. What can a student imagine a lesson with you to be like? What’s your teaching style?

A. I like to create a fun and enjoyable atmosphere where students should not be scared of making mistakes and can expect a diverse structure of learning with the use of different learning materials I have created through my own career and experience.

Q. We noticed that you have a wide variety of Business English lessons. Could you please tell us more about your business experience, and what should students expect from these lessons?

A. Working in the British financial service sector and various Business sectors for over 10 years in various corporate companies throughout Great Britain. I have learned a great deal about business and as a whole from this understanding I now have a great understanding of Business English and how to use it correctly in an English speaking Business environment. In these lessons we do not use commercial textbooks. I have created these lessons based on my personal experience when working in various organisations in a variety of sectors and communicating and working with various countries and cultures across the world that include the British, Americans, Europeans and different Asian Nationalities including the Chinese.

Q. Finally, would you like to leave a message for your current and future students?

A. If you would like a fun, enjoyable environment where we can enjoy learning English together these lessons are for you. Each lesson will be different and based on you and what you want from your experience. When studying Business English these are more formal and structured lessons and based on your personal progression which will help you evolve your language speaking skills for Business Environments.
