Hello, my name is Emily! I am a Canadian living in Japan. I studied abroad in Japan twice in the past and really loved it, and now I am living in Yokohama with my husband, who is Japanese. I love learning about different cultures and teaching others about my own!

About me:
I majored in English and minored in Japanese in my hometown, which is Calgary, in Canada. I also have a TESOL certificate with OnTESOL for teaching English as a second language.

Near my hometown is a National Park called Banff; here's a photo of me at the famous sightseeing spot Lake Louise!

In 2018-2019 I studied abroad in Japan at Keio University, where I was in the Japanese language and Culture program. I recently passed level N2 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT)! I understand what it feels like to learn a new language, so I want to help others in their language learning journey!

Lesson Style:
I want to offer more relaxed lessons that focus on natural conversation, so students can experience what it would be like to speak with a native English speaker. Through my own experience I felt that this is one of the best ways to gain confidence in speaking a new language, and it's a fun and interesting way to practice. Speaking with natives is a great way to learn about cultural contexts as well, which you cannot learn by only using textbooks.

Hobbies and Interests:
Please feel free to suggest any topics that interest you. I myself am very interested in art, which is my hobby. I am also interested in travel, food, reading, tv shows (Japanese and English), and video games. I also love Ghibli movies! Here's a painting I did of Kiki's Delivery service 魔女の宅急便:

I welcome students of any level, but ideally my lessons are suited for learners who have at least background knowledge of the alphabet and basic vocabulary and grammar already. If you are a beginner and are worried about not being able to communicate, I am proficient in Japanese if there is any need to use it.
