Elena.T Tutor Profile

Hello everyone! My name is Elena.

⦅Self Introduction⦆
I am from Yekaterinburg, Russia.
I learned French at school, so I am that rare Russian who cannot speak English. When I entered Ural Federal University, I chose to major in Japanese Studies. At that time, I knew absolutely nothing about Japan, but as I studied, I got absorbed in it and studied abroad at Osaka University of Foreign Studies twice. I have been living in Japan ever since I graduated. This is my 20th year in Japan.

Many Russians like to escape the city and spend time relaxing in the great outdoors. ↑

⦅Self Promotion⦆
I assume everyone reading this is a native Japanese speaker. Now, think about this:
“右へ曲がると、パン屋があります”
“右へ曲がると、パン屋に行きます”
Native speakers can easily tell which of the two sentences is correct and which is not. Well, why is this? Can you explain this? (I’ve written the answer at the bottom of this page.) In other words, native speakers use their native language unconsciously, making it difficult to teach them the language.
Considering what I mentioned above, this is why I chose to study “Russian Teaching Methodology” in order to teach Russian to Japanese speakers. I have completed a 350-hour online course in Russian Teaching Methodology at Moscow State University.
The best part about having a native teacher is that they never make mistakes, their pronunciation and intonation are correct, and they are familiar with the culture and customs of that country. For example, what exactly does “sakura” mean to you? It is a kind of tree, right? However, when Japanese people hear the word “sakura,” they associate it with many things, such as “hanami” (cherry blossom viewing), “blooms and fades quickly,” “entrance ceremony,” and so on. So, in any other language, if you learn the culture within the language and the words within the culture together, you will have a better understanding of that language. It is best to have a native speaker teach you those things as well.
Besides being a native Russian speaker with Russian teaching qualifications, I also have a Japanese language qualification of Level 1 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), so I can provide explanations in Japanese in an easy-to-understand manner.

Thank you for your interest.

This is my hometown, the city of Yekaterinburg. ↑

The answer to the Japanese question I mentioned above is: because the latter uses expressions that include “will.”
