Hello! My name is Marina. I currently live in Serbia where I was born and raised. I am a third-year PhD student of psychology. I have been teaching English online since 2014. Over the past 5 years, I taught students of different ages, from children to adults, and of different proficiency levels, from zero-based to advanced.
My passion for teaching comes from my deepest need to assist in other people’s development and growth. Nothing gives me as much pleasure as that moment when a student’s face lights up with a sudden understanding of what I have been explaining to him. These moments are truly priceless and they make teaching the most enjoyable and inspiring job.
My teaching style is exceptionally energetic and is characterized by dynamic and warm interaction with a student. Another thing that students appreciate in my teaching is that I put a lot of efforts into correcting their mistakes and providing explanations for them with a lot of patience and warmth.
You can check out excerpts from some of my classes with adult students here:
And here you can see me teach kids:
I am a person of very diverse interests so I have many hobbies but singing is my absolutely favourite.
In this photo, I am singing with my cover band but I would like to mention that I have also recorded and made a video as a solo artist. In case you are curious, you can check it out.
I would like to mention that I have experience in the world of academia, too. I worked as a teaching assistant at the university for about 3 years after I had obtained my master’s degree in psychology. After that, I worked as a research assistant for a year and a half. During this time I studied brain activation related to the perception of movement using functional magnetic resonance imaging or fMRI. So, you could say that I am kind of a nerd. :)
Students who learn with me can use any of the numerous books I have (e.g. New Concept English, 4 books, Interchange, 6 books, Side by Side, 4 books, Let's Go, 7 books, Junior New Concept English, 6 books, TOEFL for basic, intermediate and advanced level, New Cambridge Young Learners English, 4 books, etc.). For many of these books (e.g. TOEFL, Let’s Go) I have accompanying audio files which are great for practising your listening skills. My students also often choose to read an article from Breaking News English and then have a conversation about it. Of course, you can always choose to have a free conversation on any topic you like. In addition, as I have published several scientific papers in international scientific journals, I can assist you with writing up your scientific papers. Here are references for my papers published in English which are also available on the Internet:
Q. Hi Marina! Thank you for taking the time to do this interview. To start off, can you tell your students a little bit about where you come from/where you grew up? A. I was born and raised in Serbia in a town called Niš. Several Roman emperors were born in Niš but the most famous is certainly Constantine the Great who was the first Roman emperor to convert to Christianity and who ended the perse...
