Daniellangoy Tutor Profile

Hi, I'm Daniel.  I'm from Portland,Oregon in the USA. I developed a passion for traveling at a young age.  My family traveled throughout the USA during summer vacations. It was exciting and interesting, but not enough for my curious mind.
It wasn't until I traveled to Europe the first time during university that I really appreciated traveling.  I realized that if I wanted to fully understand it that I'd have to learn more languages, so I began to do so.  As I became more proficient at speaking Spanish I had opportunities to tutor other students at university. I began to think that teaching languages might be a career that I could have another passion for.  I wasn't sure where to teach, in the USA or abroad.

A few years after graduating I decided to travel to Asia and the first stop was Japan.  I only spoke a few Japanese words, but I managed to travel for a total of six months here.  In popular tourist areas Japanese people could speak great or good English, however in more rural areas I had to use gestures and the basic Japanese that I'd learned while moving around Japan.  An idea began to emerge.  Maybe I should teach here for a bit.

I began teaching English in Tokyo.  I soon realized that I didn't like living there so I went to a rural area in the Kanto region and obtained a good job there.  I taught at an English language school teaching all levels of students from kindergarten to adults.  It was exciting. I've taught large groups of up to seventy students at a dental hygienst school,  smaller groups of local business people, resident doctors at more than fifteen hopitals, nursing schools, engineering companies, dentists, lawyers and nearly every type of other professionals.

I absolutley love teaching and my lessons are molded around the preferences of the students.  I'm completely flexible to the needs of my students always. For example, today I had a class of retired older people that I've been teaching for ten years.  They have their preferred style of mostly English ,but occasionally using Japanese in the class.  Often I translate the Japanese to English.
My teaching style is as a calm, sometimes humourous person that only wants the best for my students.  Whether vocabulary, communication, grammar, intonation, listening or anything really.  I can provide almost everything.

If you're interested, I'd be happy to provide a trial lesson. Yay!
