Hello! I am Myla and you can call me “My”. I have been teaching English online for more than 5 years now. My past work experience in the corporate world for many years, enabled me to communicate with people from different countries across the globe, using English as the universal language. And because of this, I became proficient and confident to teach my students how to talk and comfortably express themselves in English. I am TEFL certified, as well.
Here are some of my relevant experiences and interests:
- I have been teaching students of all ages and English levels, ranging from ages 7 to 72, beginner to advance, and of different nationalities such as Chinese, Korean, Japanese and from other countries in the Middle East.
- I use phonetics / grammar textbooks and storybooks for children. I have also tried incorporating Minecraft, Peppa Pig and other interesting characters, when I teach young boys and girls.
- I usually customize my lessons for adult learners, mainly focused on common everyday English dialogues / random conversations, picture -telling and essays about various issues.
- I also had the opportunity to teach Business English to home based employees during the recent pandemic.
- The most challenging course that I taught was Medical English to Chinese Neurosurgeons who were preparing to go to Europe for their Post Graduate Studies.
- I taught Basic English to beginner adult learners, as well. Some of them were housewives who just wanted to travel abroad.
- One of the most requested lesson that I offered to high school students and young professionals would be the review for IELTS. I guided them through the IELTS 3-part Speaking Test.
- I have also been studying Korean with language partners and online tutorials. This enabled me to understand the dynamics of learning a new language as an adult. Consequently, it made me more effective in teaching English as a second language, based on the requirement or preference of the student.
- Two hobbies that I love doing are traveling and drawing. And I think, both of these enhanced my teaching skills even more.
- I believe that treveling to different places, meeting people from other countries and learning various cultures widened my understanding and ability to reach out to students and encourage them to communicate freely.
- Drawing has also helped me in studying a new language. To make learning Korean fun, no matter how challenging it may be, I draw my notes like a kindergarten. It worked for me. It may be effective for you too. Here are some samples of my notes:
If you are ready to learn English, I would be very happy to teach. See you! Let's make it fun and interesting!
