Maddie Tutor Profile

This tutor is currently on leave.
Hello, there!
My name is Madeleine. I’m an English language teacher from California but I currently reside in Prague, Czech Republic.

Teaching in Prague
In 2016, I moved to Prague to get my TEFL certification at TEFL Worldwide Prague and have been teaching here ever since. I have experience teaching elementary to upper-intermediate levels in a variety of settings from one-on-one tutoring; to small & medium-sized groups. I have taught grammar, conversational English, and general English to companies and individuals. In addition to teaching English, I also offer violin lessons to children and adult students!

My interests and hobbies:

I absolutely love traveling the world and meeting people from different cultures. I especially love the traditional fiddle music of Scotland and had the wonderful opportunity to study at the University of Glasgow for a couple of years before moving to Prague.

(This is a photo of me and my friend I studied with at The University of Glasgow whose name is also Madeline, haha! Fun fact: The University of Glasgow campus is in part what inspired J.K. Rowling's depiction of Hogwarts in Harry Potter!)

My main interest is definitely music. While living in Prague, I’ve become very involved in the vibrant music scene here. I’ve gotten the amazing chance to play in music festivals and shows across the Czech Republic and have made long-lasting friends through music!

(Here is a photo taken during a performance from one of our favorite music festivals, Bigboš Křinice.)

My Cafetalk lessons:

  • Most of my lessons are aimed to get my students to speak since I know there are not many opportunities to speak English in Japan.
  • I will teach you common expressions, idioms, and phrasal verbs to get you to sound more like a native English-speaker.
  • We will practice correct pronunciation. Students will be able to differentiate between similar sounds in English. I have a lesson that focuses on troublesome /l/ or /r/ sounds which Japanese-speakers struggle with.
  • For young learners, I have many reading and writing materials that focus on word-families: (AT, ET, IT, OP-words, etc…) If taught early, students will be able to correctly pronounce English words.
