About Me
Hello! My name is Sophia and I live in Sydney, Australia!
I have always loved learning languages, and I am excited to teach others about the English language and culture in Australia. I have an international TESOL certificate, and am able to design and adjust lessons to suit your needs and interests.
In my spare time, I love to cook and play sports. I also enjoy arts and crafts. I've travelled around a few countries including Japan and Korea, and have always enjoyed exploring new places. I am currently studying Japanese and am using my experiences as a student to improve my abilities to teach!
Teaching Style
I teach adults English that focuses on daily communication and business English. I can run lessons on anything from casual conversations, learning new vocabulary, learning English skills for the workplace, to practicing giving presentations and writing skills.
I believe the best way to learn is to practice and experiment, so I will give you lots of opportunities to practice speaking, listening, reading and writing so you are able to really improve your English skills. English can be tricky sometimes, so don’t worry about making mistakes! I will give you gentle correction.
I am able to speak conversational Cantonese and some Japanese, however I will use English in our lessons to help you get more practice in listening and understanding English.
I can also teach introductory classes on crochet skills for making toys (amigurumi)! These will be done in English only.
What to Expect
Casual/Free Conversation:
If you wish to have a casual conversation class, I will contact you beforehand to ask if you have a topic you want to talk about. I can talk about almost any topic, so please share your interests and hobbies with me! If you don’t have a preference, I will give you a few choices in our lesson and you can pick from them.
Specific English Skills
I can help you with specific English goals, such as improving your writing or reading abilities, or learning English to help with travel or work! Before our first lesson I will contact you to ask what your English goals are and your current English abilities. This will help me plan what to cover in our lessons. I usually like to give homework that I will review with you, so that you can practice your skills between lessons.
