Hi, I’m Steve.
I have been teaching English online to mainly Chinese students for over 18 months. With my extensive career experience and involvement with teaching Special Needs kids, I am able to help a wide range of students meet their improvement goals.
I currently teach everything from basic English for children to high school and college students to IELTS and TOEFL applicants to business professionals wanting to improve their interpersonal communication skills.
I have a degree in Mechanical and Production Engineering, a mini MBA and a post graduate diploma in marketing.
My working career started as an Engineer in the UK. I have experience in the copper rod, aerospace, cables, electronics, heavy industry and oil and gas industries. In 2000 I was offered a position in The Philippines and have lived and worked there ever since.
My latest corporate role was as an Operations Manager with an American multinational corporation. One of my roles was to create and manage support teams in close cooperation with remote counterparts on 6 continents.
At any one time I would manage up to 90 supervisors and staff in diverse fields such as Technical support, marketing, technical sales, CRM and quality management. I was also responsible for the development of global marketing, Customer Support and Quality Management projects.
One of my greatest pleasures as a manager and leader is to share my knowledge and experience for the benefit of others and it gives me a sense of fulfilment to have been a part of someone else’s personal development.
These days I prefer to work from home and teach subjects such as English as a Second Language, Presentation Skills, Leadership and Public Speaking. I also have students who just need career advice or personal coaching.
As a teacher I am patient, enthusiastic, flexible and can quickly assess skill level and tutoring approach to suit any individual. I like to focus on the practical application of whatever I teach so that it can be used as a development tool.
Whenever I get the chance I go swimming and am becoming proficient in 3D modelling and 3D printing. I love visiting new places and gaining new experiences to talk about over a cup of tea with friends and family. I have a particular interest in Special Needs kids and this is reflected in my approach to teaching where patience and understanding are key factors
