Greetings from China, where I have been living and working for the past six years. My name is Maja (/j/ pronounced as /y/) and I come from Serbia, a small but beautiful European country.
I have been an English teacher since 2012 which is the year when I got my masters degree in English Language and Literature. I've been surrounded by English since the age of 3 and I fell in love with the language. When I was still living in Serbia I worked for a private school that provided lessons in various languages, but of course English was the most popular. I taught children and adults, as well as British Council exam preparation courses, such as FCE and CAE. I also taught Business English and had a chance to teach these classes in various interantional companies, such as Renault and Comtrade.
Meeting interesting people was one of the perks of having this job and it is what made me want to live abroad and get a chance to meet people whose culture and language were different. So this is how I moved to the other side of the world, to China, where I still live and work. However, my job in China mainly focuses on teaching children and I would like to have more opportunities to teach adults here on Cafetalk.
Most of the students that I've taught complained about the same problem that they encountered on their language learning journey: opening their mouths to speak was the biggest challenge! "Reading and listening are a piece of cake, but when I'm supposed to speak I feel like I can't remember a single word in English!" is what most of them said. My goal is to help my students overcome this problem and I've found that this works best when our lessons include stories, pictures and videos! This is what you can expect in my lessons!
If you are looking for a teacher who understands what it is like to learn English as a second language and whose passion for teaching and for English itself is immense, join me in sharing the love for this beautiful language that we all need in our daily lives and let's do this through stories and videos which will make your language learning experience memorable!
