The Best Spring Food (with vocabulary!)

周间主题: What foods represent spring to you?

Kevin O.

(Any words or expressions that are in bold letters have definitions at the bottom of this article!)

Spring is amazing, isn't it? The winter is cold and grey, and suddenly the sun starts shining and flowers bloom.

In Canada, spring is a little bit unpredictable. Yesterday (April 23rd) it actually snowed! Can you believe it? However, today is sunny and warm again. 変...

But one of the best things about spring is the food. And by far, my favourite spring food is barbeque

Of course, you can go to a restaurant and order barbeque, but there is something special about making your own food outside in the sun, and sharing it with your family or friends.

My favourite barbequed dish is simple: hamburgers. You can't beat a classic hamburger!

Ah. Now I'm hungry...

------

Bloom: Verb. When flowers come alive after winter, they "bloom".

Can you believe it?: A common expression. It isn't a real question, but is actually used to emphasize how surprised you are by something. For example, "I got perfect on my test. Can you believe it?"

Barbeque (BAR-buh-cue): This is a verb ("I barbequed the steak"), a noun ("Heat up the barbeque"), and an adjective ("I ate some barbequed chicken wings"). This is often shortened to "BBQ".

You can't beat ______: A common expression. If you say you "can't beat" something, you are saying that it is very good. For example, "You can't beat nice weather!"
