Amazing, Eye-grabbing Spain - Viva?

Teacher Dom

Like many countries, Spain is very different north to south. The climate, scenery and countryside as well as the people are all quite unique. In addition, the north of Spain is home to the Basque people.

They even have their own language which has no relation whatsoever to Spanish. In fact it's one of only a few languages of which nobody knows the origin ( where it comes from )

I have long wanted to visit this area, along with the north of Portugal. It's known as the ‘breadbasket’ of Spain since, due to its climate, it produces most of the fruit and vegetables consumed within the country.

It also has a very mountainous climate which is perfect for rearing cattle (cows) and sheep. As a result, the milk, butter and meat in this area are fantastic :-) just look at  the portion sizes - they were gigantic (ginormous) as you can see from some of the pictures below.. Definitely very hearty (large portions) food!

The north of Spain is also home to the famous and beautiful city of Bilbao which hosts the Guggenheim Museum (seen in the cover photo).

A fantastic landmark containing some wonderful pieces of art as well as amazing sculptures, both inside and out, and a historic car museum/show - just look at some of the crazy, futuristic jalopies (automobiles) below

Moving further west along the coast took me to Santander. Lovely if you like beaches, and it has a quaint old town but not a great deal else.

Moving to the west I ended up staying in an area near the famous Lastres beach.

I also visited the nearby, well-known town of Oviedo.

Here the climate is very different. Mountains and sea within very close proximity so the temperatures in summer range between 18 and 26° which is lovely when escaping the heat of the Spanish summer

I hope you enjoyed my pictures and I look forward to seeing you at one of my lessons :-)
