"No way!" Does that mean no?

Weekly Topic: What is the word you most often hear in conversations in your native language?

Ella.W

Have you ever finish saying something, telling a story or asking a question and you got the response "no way!"? This is something that I hear my friends say all the time. But what does it mean and how do you use it?

1) To say that something is not going to happen or that I (the speaker) would not be doing something

ex #1.
A: Are you going to run for class president this year?
B: No way! Did you not hear that the most popular girl in school decided to run for class president?

ex #2
A: What do you think about singing for this year's talent show?
B: No way! The chances of that happening is like one in a million!

2) As a way to show surprise or as a way to express that you don't believe the other person.

ex #1. Disbelief
A: Why did you get sent to the principle's office?
B: Tiffany said that I stole her wallet!
A: No way! I don't belive that you would ever do that!
B: I mean why would I do that?

ex #2. Surprise
A: No way! Is that you on the cover of that magazine?!
