How long do you think a dog can live? The average lifespan of a dog is 10 to 13 years, but Bobi, the world’s oldest dog, passed away recently at the age of 31 years and 165 days! Bobi lived his amazingly long and peaceful life in rural Portugal, but despite living so long, he was lucky to survive his first few days as a puppy. According to the American Kennel Club, the age of 16 in dog years is equivalent to between age 80 and 121 in human years, depending on the size of the dog. Their chart doesn’t go beyond 16 years, but the American Veterinary Medical Association suggests that each additional year would be equivalent to 5 human years, making Bobi’s final age even more incredible when you think about it in human terms! To read more about converting dog years to human years and how researchers come up with these numbers, you can visit the American Kennel Club’s website.
