Spring Awakening in Finland

Weekly Topic: What do you look forward to this spring?

Aleksi

After a long and cold winter, the people of Finland emerge from their cozy homes. Spring, a much-awaited season, brings with it a burst of life and a multitude of activities that define the Finnish way of celebrating the arrival of warmer days.

One popular way Finns celebrate warmer weather is to head to ski centers. In the middle of beautiful landscapes, these centers offer an exhilarating escape for both enthusiasts and families. Gliding down the slopes becomes a cherished tradition, allowing everyone to savor the last moments of snow before it gracefully melts away.

As the snow recedes, cottages tucked away in the heart of nature awaken from their winter slumber. In order to prepare their cottages for summer, Finns engage to garden work. With a newfound warmth in the air, it's time to prepare the grounds for the blooming season ahead. Flowerbeds are carefully tended to, and the earth is turned over, signaling the beginning of a colorful and vibrant transformation.

The unmistakable scent of BBQ smoke wafts through the air, marking the onset of the BBQ season. Families and friends gather around grills, enjoying delicious meals in the great outdoors. The aroma of grilled sausages and fresh vegetables is in the air even though snow still covers the ground partly, and this captures the essence of Finnish spring.

Outdoor sports take center stage as the weather becomes more pleasant. From cycling through scenic trails to hiking along pristine lakeshores, Finns embrace the nature. With the arrival of milder temperatures, the countryside becomes a canvas for exploration and appreciation.

In essence, spring in Finland is not just a season—it's a celebration of life, nature, and the resilience of a community that weathers the winter storms together. As ski centers echo with laughter, cottages bloom with newfound vitality, and BBQs sizzle under the open sky, the Finnish people emerge from their winter cocoon, ready to embrace the beauty and warmth that spring gives them.

And for me, this is like the new ''beginning'' of warmer days, meting friends, travelling and enjoying little things outside of my home. Home where I have spent most of my time time during the cold winter.
