Why English?

Ester

I'm new.
Even though I have taught more than 3 100 English classes around the world, I'm quite nervous in this new neighbourhood where Cafetalk lives.
Please pop in to say hallo!

Why English?
Currently English is one of the main languages used in international business, in science and technology and even in pop culture and social media. It is used as a global language in many regions and countries throughout the world.
It gives a speaker the opportunity to communicate with a great number of people - not only with those who are native English speakers - but also with the *almost two billion people who speaks English as a secondary language as a way to get information and to reach out to others around the globe.

As of 2022, there were about 400 million native speakers of English. Including people who speak English as a second language, estimates of the total number of Anglophones vary from 1.5 billion to 2 billion.
