Everyday Idioms and Phrasal Verbs

Stop and smell the roses Stick to or stick with

Kursinhalt

Stop and smell the roses simply mean to take a break and spend some time for enjoyment.

My friend is a doctor in Florida and she is always complaining how tired she is all the time.  So I told her this. Bing I know being a doctor is a very important job but you also need to think of yourself and take time to stop and smell the roses.

Stick with or stick to are phrasal verbs meaning a person will continue using or doing something.Patronizing a product or choosing a person or thing for good.

I want to stick to teaching English because I find it very glorifying for my heart when I see a student becoming confident with this skill. I love to stick with my old products because they are very good for my skin type.

The student will be asked if the idiom and phrasal verb was understood well and will be giving me two more sentences using them.

I will also emphasize the importance of familiarizing with idioms and phrasal verbs and using them when we are among native speakers because it is a way to capture their heart when we show them that we are well adjusted to their expressions and styles of their country.  We make more friends this way too.

If the student asks why do we need to master idioms and phrasal verbs I will explain that it is a basic conversation skill, it is a way of expressing humor and fun in a conversation and it is having a deeper understanding of another culture and embracing it.  Native speakers use idioms all the time and it is so handy and well loved if we understand and communicate with them on a deeper level like this. They will appreciate us better.  This is a lesson that is suitable for businessmen doing a long term job in the US or a family immigrating there because of work or a student who is about to study abroad.
