Japanese verbs are divided into three groups. These groups are called group 1, group 2 and group 3.
Depending on the group the verb is conjugated differently.
We will focus on this because this grammar is very important.

ますの前の母音が i の音(The vowel before masu is i)
In the 1st group this vowel is always an "i"

とります はなします いきます

2グループ(2nd group)
