Interactive Storytelling
A passage about Buckingham Palace and the Royal Family (avoid controversy, stick to historical facts).
The Queen of England lives in Buckingham Palace in London, the capital city. Famous people often visit and there is plenty of room for events and parties. Not all of her family live there.
Do you know any interesting facts about the Royal family? What did they think of women?
There can only be eight - eight kings or queens with the same name. That is the rule. Henry VIII was probably the most famous king of England. He was the last king named Henry. He was desperate for a male child and married six women for this reason. His son Edward did not live for very long and died before he became an adult.
There was a lot of fighting within the Royal family? What do you think Elizabeth I was famous for?
The role of the Royal family in modern society vs. the more traditional role the royal family has played; for example, Elizabeth I, remained unmarried. This is how she protected her reputation as a queen and as a woman. She spoke several different languages. At that time, religion was much more important. There was a lot of fighting because of religion. She was responsible for making Protestantism the official religion of England. She made it illegal to be Catholic. She executed her cousin, Mary Queen of Scots. Her sister, Queen Mary kept Elizabeth in a prison tower (until Mary died). After Mary died, Elizabeth became the queen.
Compare the Windsors to the Tudors. What are the differences (between them)?
Did the different royal families know each other? Were there any evil kings or queens of England?
Bad King John was famous for provoking a rebellion among the commoners. They didn't like the way that he ruled the country. His taxes were too high and the people did not have enough food to eat. At one time, three cousins were ruling three different European countries. Members of the royal family are not allowed to marry common people, or commoners. It was very common for different Royal families to marry each other. This is why the different Royal families of Europe were related to one another.
