*****This is a Non-Skype/Non-Zoom Lesson.  *****

For this NON-SKYPE/Non-Zoom lesson, you will receive a recorded short story that I have recorded.  You will listen to a Short Story read by me.  You will receive a transcript with vocabulary. You can download and listen to these stories and practice with the recordings to help your listening and speaking. 

After 24 hours, I will send you a quiz through Cafetalk.  Fill out the quiz and send back your answers.  I will correct your quiz and send you the answer key.  

If you do not choose a recording, your request will NOT be accepted.  
  • You may only request 1 story per lesson. You MUST choose a recording.  I will NOT choose for you.  
  • The recording is yours to keep and listen to as you wish. 
Here are a list of stories you will be able to request.  There will be more stories added in the future so always check for new stories.

  •  The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant is about a couple with no money but somehow get invited to a lavish ball. The wife doesn’t have a proper outfit so the couple make incredible sacrifices to attend the ball in style. Tragedy awaits and the plot twist at the end of the story is predictable but amusing.

  • The Devil is in the Details - A fun short story for ESL students at or around the intermediate level. It’s the story of a man who mysteriously shows up at a woman’s door. He knows her name and many details about her life. He has a proposition. He asks her to choose between time and happiness. 
  • The Gift of the Magi Written by O. Henry and published in 1906, The Gift of the Magi is a touching story of two people short on money but full of love for each other.
  • The Lady or The Tiger? Written by Frank Stockton.  A semi-barbaric king devises a semi-barbaric (but entirely fair) method of criminal trial involving two doors, a beautiful lady and a very hungry tiger.
  • Death by Scrabble – By Charlie Fish. A game of Scrabble has serious consequences.
  • The Joy One Shadow Made by Helena Phonse - The tale of King Twilight and his two daughters happened a long time ago. They ruled over a stunning northern country named Celeste.
