These writing lessons are aimed at improving your email writing skills.
They are very useful if you already have to deal with this task at work daily.

Writing emails are generally different from writing essays or writing a diary. Keeping your writing clear, concise and succint is key.

Through this exercise you will practice how to:
  • structure your emails;
  • avoid overcommunicating; and 
  • convey politeness in your writing
It goes without saying that a certain extent of planning may be required to write some emails.

Some of the scenarios you could be provided with to practice your writing skills may be as follows:

  • Writing a complaint
  • Responding to a complaint
  • Raising an inquiry or an order
  • Agreeing or disagreeing on terms and conditions
  • Writing an Apology
Here are some basic tips to bear in mind when you strategize writing your emails:
1. Write a meaningful subject line
2. Keep the message focused
3. Identify yourself clearly
4. Be kind and don't flame
5. Proofread!
6. Don't assume privacy
7. Distinguish between formal and informal situations
