What is Brambly Hedge?

Brambly Hedge is a world created by English artist and writer Jill Barklem. Her books tell stories of the mice who live in the hedge. The stories are strongly tied to nature and the seasons. Her illustrations are beautiful and full of details.

There are eight books in the series: Spring Story, Summer Story, Autumn Story, Winter Story, The Secret Staircase (takes place during the Winter Solstice celebrations), The High Hills (takes place at the end of autumn), Sea Story (takes place in summer), and Poppy's Babies (takes place at the beginning of summer).

I love books (paper books), but I also suggest getting these books in e-book format if it is available with audio (for example, here https://www.kobo.com/jp/ja/ebook/autumn-story-read-aloud-brambly-hedge). It's excellent to read along with the narrator and imitate his pronunciation and intonation.

Who is this lesson suitable for?
This lesson is suitable for upper-intermediate to advanced students, both children and adults. This is a children's picture-book, but it is written for native speakers, so the language is authentic and colloquial.

How will I benefit from this lesson?
By reading authentic children's books, you will expand your vocabulary, practice more complex sentence structures, and increase your experience with natural and colloquial English. As we read, we can talk about unfamiliar words and practice pronunciation. We can talk about what we see in the very detailed pictures and what's happening. This is excellent speaking practice, and can be as simple or as challenging as required for each student.

Please note: I can provide a few pages of the book to read together if you don't have a copy, but due to copyright issues, I can't share the entire book. Please take a trial lesson if you'd like to see if you enjoy the books and the lesson. If you like it, you can feel comfortable buying the books! ^^

プロ意識が高い内容が充実熱意がある

シリーズ中の2つめのお話を読み終わりました。今回もとても楽しかったです！ただ話を字を目で追って「読む」だけでは気付かなかった細部にいたるまで教えてくださるので、読みおえた後も素敵な余韻が続きます。英会話の勉強にもとてもなりますし、お話もより楽しめて、盛りだくさんのレッスンです。

小さな時に、特に絵が大好きだったBrambly Headgeシリーズのお話を、今度は、英語でいきいきと楽しめる時がくるとは！わたしはまず自分流で読みあげて、間違ったアクセントはさっとチャットで訂正をもらいます。生徒のレベルに合わせて、注意深く、丁寧に教えてくれる先生だと思います。意味がわからない箇所はどんどん質問できますし、Judy先生も内容に関連したエピソードや文化背景を教えてくれますので、会話もどんどんはずみます。そんなこんなで1冊全部を1レッスンで読破できなくて、複数レッスンで読んでいます。子ども向けの本とはいえ、英語が易しいわけでは決してなく、一人だとなかなか深く読み込んでいくのは難し...

The tutor is professional, nice and polite. I was surprised that she accepted my course request within a day. She went on sending me the messages and kindly asked me if I knew the story of the Mice of Brambly Hedge. In the very beginning of our lesson, she asked me what teaching method I preferred. I thought reading after her sentence by sentence was the best way for me. She not only corrected my mispronunciation but also suggested some appropriate wordings in causal English. It was amazing that she was an expert of plants which I learnt a lots from her. Thanks for her lesson.

楽しい気軽にできるレベルに合わせてくれる

秋バージョンを読みました。図鑑で絵本に出てきた花や、ネズミの写真を見せてくださったり、知らなかった単語を丁寧に説明してくださいました。挿絵がカラフルで細かく美しいので、挿絵を見ているだけでも楽しくなる本でした。ページ数が少ないので、1回のレッスンで最後までちょうど読み終わりましたが、ネズミの世界に入り込みました。ありがとうございました。

Brambly Hedge(日本語版は『のばらの村のものがたり』)の絵本を題材にしたレッスンを受講しました。感想は、とにかくとても楽しかったです！絵本が好きなので興味を持ちましたが、先生の知識が素晴らしく、絵の細かい部分にまで意味があること、作者の意図があることなどの解説を聞きながら新しい英語表現を身につけることができます。絵には一人で読んだだけでは絶対に気付くことのできないような作者のこだわりがあり、登場人物(ネズミ)の名前すら意味があることなど、先生の解説にただただ感嘆のため息が出るばかりでした。続きが知りたくなる魅力的なレッスンです。ピーターラビットのような絵本が好きな人にはぜひお勧めし...
