*We will work on breathing practice, along with focusing of your body’s center of gravity and inner workings.
We will focus on building a supple and strong body (core training).

(e.g.) Autumn Night (Aki no Yo, 秋の夜), Crane’s Voice (Tsuru no Koe, 鶴の声), Kotobuki (寿), Ashikari (芦刈), Hime-Sanja (姫三社), etc. I offer a wide range of tunes from romance tunes to celebratory tunes.

Once you have mastered some of these basic tunes, you can move on to “Kurokami (dark hair, 黒髪)” which is one of the most popular Jiuta dances!

***********Materials to prepare, and the amount of space you will need***********

  • Wearing a kimono and a fan for dancing is optional for this lesson.

However, wearing a kimono and having a fan for the traditional Japanese dance will enhance the content of this lesson

If wearing a kimono is difficult, you can wear a yukata instead!

  • You will need at least three tatami mat-sized space for dancing.

Either tatami or wooden floorings are fine.

I believe that the larger the available dancing space, the better it would be for you.

***********【What is Jiuta dance (地唄舞, Jiuta-mai)?】***************

Jiuta-mai is a type of traditional Japanese dance.

It is a traditional dance that developed in the Kansai region (Western Japan), incorporating elements of palace dances and Noh dances.

It was developed as a performing art during the late Edo period, and was also used as a form of beauty treatment and exercise (like yoga) for women.

The movements involve breat breathing hing and awareness of the core of the body (丹田, tanden), and there are many twisting and stretching movements that use the core of the body, which also helps train your lower body.

This dance is mainly performed along musical instruments such as sangen (三絃), koto (箏), and shakuhachi (尺八), and offers a unique world of simplicity and grace.
