The "Checking Understanding" class is designed to enhance communication skills, particularly focusing on ensuring clarity and comprehension in conversations. The session kicks off with a preparation task before watching a video demonstrating a conversation where people check for understanding. This is a crucial skill in both personal and professional settings to ensure that all parties involved are on the same page.
After the video, a set of useful phrases and vocabulary that are essential for effectively checking understanding will be introduced. These might include phrases such as "Can you reppeat that more slowly, please?" or "Could you say that again, please?". Learning these expressions helps you to ask questions and rephrase information in a way that fosters clear communication.
Following the introduction of these tools, the class will engage in various tasks. These tasks are designed to allow you to practice the newly learned phrases and vocabulary in realistic scenarios. The practical application helps solidify the skills by putting them into practice, enhancing your ability to communicate effectively and ensure mutual understanding in your conversations.
