Lesson Title: "Dining Out Like a Pro: Mastering Restaurant Conversations"

Objectives:

  • Students will learn and practice vocabulary related to dining out.
  • Students will understand and use common phrases for ordering food at a restaurant.
  • Students will practice conversational skills in a restaurant setting.

Materials:

  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Printed menus created by me

Lesson Duration : 35 minutes

1 Introduction: Begin with a discussion about students' experiences dining out so I will be able to tailor my lesson to suit their needs

    • Have you ever eaten at a restaurant?
    • What kind of food do you like to order?
    • Do you have a favorite restaurant?
  • Vocabulary Brainstorm: Write the word "restaurant" on the whiteboard. eg., menu, waiter, appetizer, main course, dessert, bill.

2. Vocabulary Introduction 

  • Vocabulary List: Introduce key vocabulary words and phrases. Write them on the whiteboard and provide definitions.

    • Menu, waiter/waitress, appetizer, main course, dessert, beverage, bill/check, tip, order, recommend, special, vegetarian, allergies, to-go, reservation.
  • Pronunciation Practice: Go through the pronunciation of each word and phrase with the class.

 

3. Dialogue Practice

  • Common Phrases: Introduce and write down common phrases used in a restaurant setting:

    • "I would like to order..."
    • "Can I see the menu, please?"
    • "What do you recommend?"
    • "I'll have the..."
    • "Can I get the bill, please?"
    • "Do you have any vegetarian options?"
  •  

4. Role-Play Activity

Role-Play: In this role-play activity where the student acts as the customers and I will be the waitress. I will also create different scenarios in the Role-Play activity.

5. Homework

Ask students to write a short dialogue between a customer and a waiter/waitress at a restaurant, using the vocabulary and phrases learned in class
