Q. Hi Ritz, please tell us a little bit about yourself.

A. Hi everyone. My name is Ritz and I live on the outskirts of London in a town called Rickmansworth. I am a native, British English speaker and I was born and raised in North-West London. I love meeting new people and I’m also very interested in business and marketing. I joined Cafetalk about 3 months ago and I have really enjoyed teaching and getting to know all of my lovely students. At the same time as teaching, I also run a business and I can honestly say that business is one of my biggest passions.

A lot of my students enjoy talking to me about their jobs and their ambitions and I love discussing their work and their interests with them. I think it’s really important to love what you do in life, and I like to help my students feel more confident in their own abilities. Lots of my students have jobs which require them to speak English well, and it’s my goal to help them achieve their goals.

Q. I’m interested in your current city, London. Do you have any favourite places to go there?

A. One of my favourite places in London is Camden Town. It’s not somewhere that tourists tend to know about but Londoners absolutely love it and it’s really worth visiting! It’s a fantastic place with lots of indoor markets, outdoor markets, pubs, bars, restaurants, street food, shops, nightclubs, and art galleries. It’s a really lively and creative place, full of alternative styles and very interesting people! It’s always so busy it’s so popular with Londoners because it’s a creative hub full of alternative shops and fashions. It’s definitely worth a trip!

Q. According to your profile, you run your own business. What kind of business do you do?

A. I run a video production business in an area of London called Shoreditch. All of our clients are business owners who buy videos to put on their websites to advertise their products and services. These videos are usually uploaded onto our client’s homepages so that their customers can find out more about their products and services and hopefully be persuaded to buy from them. We’ve worked with lots of big and small businesses and we’ve even done some work for the NHS and the local government.

Q. What do you do in your free time?

A. I’m actually quite a workaholic so in my free time, I’m usually working! That’s because I genuinely enjoy what I do and I’m always happy to spend as much time as possible preparing for my business clients and my students. I also enjoy playing with my beautiful Labrador dog ‘Charlie’ who I love very much! As some of my students already know, I’m also trying to motivate myself to go running more often. I’m trying to make running part of my daily routine but I hate feeling cold and the temperature is definitely starting to drop here in the UK! I suppose I’ll have to try and force myself! Hahaha!

Q. You have various types of lessons! Do you have a recommended lesson for beginners?

A. For beginners, there are a few lessons in particular I would recommend. The ‘English pronunciation’ lesson helps students to correctly pronounce certain sounds which they might previously have been struggling with. I can help you fix any sound which find difficult. I’ve already helped lots of students fix lots of sounds such as ‘R’, ‘L’, ‘D’, ‘N’, ‘TH’, ‘T’, ‘W’ etc.

I would also recommend the ‘Reading in English’ lesson because I can give you short stories to read and these will test your comprehension and your pronunciation at the same time. I also recommend the ‘Think Quick’ lesson, which can help you develop your skills in sentence structure by answering basic questions in English.

If students request the ‘Make Your Own Lesson’ lesson, then we can gradually work through various exercises from text books which can help the student to practice specific things they find difficult such as greetings, saying goodbye, ordering at restaurants, asking directions etc.

Q.What is the biggest feature of your lessons?

A.I really believe that confidence is very important when you’re learning a language. If you’re too nervous about making mistakes, then you start to focus on what happens if you get it wrong. Instead of worrying about mistakes, I like to encourage my students to feel brave enough to just try, whether they get it right or not. If they get it wrong, I will always help to correct them and when they get it right, I will always encourage them to believe in their own ability and have the confidence to know that they CAN do it! I also love getting to know my students and what makes them laugh. I always try to make my lessons fun!

Q.Finally, is there anything you would like to share with our students?

A. I would just like to emphasise that I have a wide variety of lessons to suit everyone. I can help you with your general English speaking skills, such as pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar and idioms…and I can also help you improve your English speaking skills for your job. I offer lessons to help with job interviews, business English, business networking, talking to your co-workers and I am happy to accept requests to help you with anything. I absolutely love all kinds of business communications and because I run a business of my own, I’m very knowledgeable in this subject. Students also seem to like my pronunciation classes quite a lot. I can help you to fix particular sounds such as ‘R’, ‘L’, ‘D’, ‘N’, ‘TH’, ‘T’, ‘W’, etc. I really enjoy teaching and I look forward to hopefully seeing you soon!
