Hello, 안녕하세요, and こんにちは !
Have you been learning English for a long time but feel that you still can't speak fluently?
Do you feel frustrated that your speaking level doesn't seem to improve no matter how much grammar you learn?
If so, I think you and I will be a great fit for each other!
We’ll take all that grammar knowledge and vocabulary you have stored so far in your brain and bring it out into lively conversations!
In my lessons, I’ll help you:
- Overcome your inhibitions when speaking English.
- Improve your conversation skills.
- Fine-tune your pronunciation and intonation.
- Understand when to use the correct grammar and vocabulary.
- Make your English more comprehensible to English speakers.
- Get better at reading, writing, and listening.
Who I Am:
My name is Chané. Nice to meet you! I come from South Africa and I currently live near Pretoria.
My goal is to help my students break through their personal learning barriers and gain confidence in speaking English.
I’m an enthusiastic and lively person, and I work as a graphic designer and copywriter. I’m also an artist in my spare time, using mostly soft pastels and oil paints as my media. I love dogs, cooking and eating tasty food, and going to the gym.
I am a native English speaker, as well as a native Afrikaans speaker, plus I’m proficient in Korean.
I have been learning Korean as my hobby since 2013. I finally had the opportunity to visit Korea for one month in 2018. It was the most wonderful trip of my life! I also passed the Advanced Korean paper at the University of Auckland in 2021. Through learning Korean, I can sympathise with you regarding how hard it is to learn a vastly different language!
If you speak Korean, you can freely talk to me and ask me questions in Korean.
The majority of my students have been Korean, so I think this gives me a certain expertise in Korean learners' journeys in learning English. And since learning Korean myself, I believe my knowledge of Korean grammar, sentence structure, and vocabulary makes me a great asset for Korean learners of English.
I recently started learning Japanese, too, and I also have a basic understanding of Japanese grammar (thanks to its similarities with Korean grammar).
My English Qualifications and Experience:
- BA English and Linguistics, University of Auckland, New Zealand, 2021
- TESOL Certificate, 2013
I have taught English for over 8 years in South Africa and New Zealand, as well as online via Skype, Zoom, and other online platforms.
More interesting facts about me:
I love singing, and frequently use the SOMESING Korean karaoke app. Singing has helped me immensely with improving my own Korean accent, and I highly recommend singing to my students as a way to learn and practice English.
Furthermore, I enjoy watching Korean dramas and Japanese Anime, which I believe has similar benefits to language learning and accent development as singing. Let’s learn songs and watch shows together to improve all aspects of your English!
One last thing: I love my other native tongue, Afrikaans. I would love to teach you basic Afrikaans and tell you about Afrikaans history and culture, if you are interested!
I look forward to meeting you!
