Hello! My name is Kathryn and I am a qualified English teacher who grew up in Japan, currently living in Northern Ireland. I have a TEFL certificate (CELTA - pass A), a first class BA in English, and over 3 years of experience teaching English to Japanese people. I love teaching English because I really enjoy getting to know people and learning about other cultures.

 

◆About me◆
I was born in Japan and lived in Chiba until I was 16. I attended a local Japanese elementary school and an international secondary school. I completed secondary school and university in the UK, during which time I also studied in Hangzhou, China for a year. After graduating from university I moved to Gifu, Japan, where I was working as a translator and English teacher until recently. I love travelling, reading, music, and cooking. Please ask me about any of these topics!
 

◆My teaching style◆
I love one-to-one teaching because I can tailor my lessons to suit the needs of each of my students. Before we start working together, I would love to hear about your history of learning English, which areas you want to improve, and what you are looking for from our lessons. If you would like to talk about this with me, feel free to book a counseling session!

 

My classes are focused on conversational English, as I think this is the most natural way to improve language ability. I have met many people who can read and write English perfectly, but lack confidence in speaking. In my free conversation classes, you can prepare something to talk about in advance, or I can choose the topic of conversation. It’s up to you!

 

I also offer lessons where you can read a news article or a story and discuss it with me. Through this, I can help you improve your reading skills, pronunciation, and speaking skills at the same time!

I am a good listener, and I will create a relaxed environment for you to practice speaking in English. While some people prefer to only use English when learning, I know it can sometimes help to be able to ask questions or have something explained in your native language. Therefore, please feel free to communicate with me in Japanese if you prefer. I am also proficient in Chinese, if that is your native language.

I offering tutoring to both children and adults! If there is a specific kind of lesson you would like that you do not see listed in my profile, feel free to send me a message and I can create one for you. 

As an experienced proofreader and translator, I also offer proofreading/native checks of your writing.
