Hey! My name is Chris, and I'd love to be your personal English coach to get you to that next level and be comfortable having conversations in English. Even native English speakers make mistakes speaking, so never be afraid to make a mistake. I will be here to bring your attention to those mistakes and coach you on how to correct those mistakes.

Now let me tell you a little bit about myself. I was born in Tampa, Florida, and I've lived in quite a few places because of being in a military family. Early childhood was spent in West Germany before the Berlin Wall came down, and I spent a couple of years in South Korea during my teenage years. Those experiences gave me more openness to other countries and cultures than the average American. Additionally, I've been exposed to a lot of friends and acquaintances of whom English is their second language.

When I went to college, I decided to study law in their paralegal program and achieved an Associate's Degree in paralegal studies. However, when I graduated, I was unable to get hired as a paralegal, despite many interviews. So I worked for temporary employment agencies for years, doing all kinds of work, from working in call centers to working at a milk plant. Ultimately, I did work in legal offices as a records clerk, and my keen eye for detail allowed me to excel in that field, albeit making significantly less than I would have made as a paralegal.

When I was laid off at the start of the pandemic, I made a decision that I would not go back to another office job. Whatever I was going to do would have meaning. Again and again, teaching English kept crossing my mind, as it had for about the past decade. There were always obstacles to teaching English, but now with all the platforms available to teach from home, there's no obstacle or excuse not to teach. I know I'll make mistakes starting out in this new world, but just as I'm telling my future students, never be afraid to make a mistake. With continual learning and good feedback, I know I'll be a great teacher who helps his students advance their English and achieve their dreams.

Starting out, I'm going to keep the lessons as simple and effective as possible, and then when I've gained some valuable experience, I'll try some new things to give the lessons a little bit more variety. But for now, I'm going to stick to casual conversations with intermediate ESL learners.

If there's a topic you'd like to talk about, you may choose that topic for our conversation. If not, then I'll suggest three topic ideas, and you may choose which one you'd like for a conversation. I'm an avid mobile gamer, sports fan, and music fan, so I'm sure we would have a great conversation about any of those topics, even if I've never played the mobile game, know anything about the sport, or listened to any songs by the particular band or artist.

If this is the kind of English practicing you're looking for, then go right ahead and book your first lesson. Let's have our first conversation!
