Hello! Nice to meet you. My name is John, I'm 28 years old, and I'm a musician living in London, England. When I'm not writing music, I love travelling and meeting people from other cultures. I look forward to getting to know you and teaching you about English language and culture.
My Teaching Experience:
Last year I lived in Japan and taught English in an elementary school. I really loved living in Japan! Teaching in school was very rewarding. I got to teach the youngest students their first words in English and have conversations about my hobbies and interests with the older students as they prepared to leave for high school. I also found that I could encourage the Japanese teachers to speak English to the children and we would often share language practice in the staff room. I made a lot of great friends by offering to teach English in return for Japanese practice and I continue to talk on the phone with Japanese friends so that we can practice English and Japanese together.
My Teaching Style:
My teaching style is fun and informal. It can be scary to speak in a foreign language, so I like it to be comfortable and to let you know that mistakes are ok. I will give you advice after each lesson but won't correct you after every mistake. I create a lesson plan as a guideline, but I think the best way to learn is to enjoy the conversation together and practice general conversation whilst learning the target language. This makes it enjoyable and memorable.
My Background and Interests:
I grew up in Derbyshire, England and went to university in Plymouth where I studied Mechanical Engineering. After this I was in a successful band and we travelled Europe together performing music. I learned to love travelling, meeting new people and learning about other people's culture. I then managed music festivals for two years in England which was very exciting. I dreamed of living in another country and learning another language, and so moved to Japan to teach English. Now I write and perform music, run a music festival in Iceland, tutor English online and coach tennis. I also love to meet Japanese friends in London, eat ramen, and practice language together!
If you would like lessons with me, please take a trial on my "Let's introduce ourselves!" lesson. I am looking forward to meeting you.
Let's do our best and practice English together!
