Hi! I’m Cathy. I’m from Melbourne and I’ve been an English teacher since 2012. I lived in Japan for 6 years and now I’m back in Australia. I love music and languages and I want to enjoy English with you!
Teaching Background
I did my undergraduate degree in music. Then I did a Master of Linguistics and then decided to try teaching English in Japan. I became a high school ALT (Assistant Language Teacher) in Iwate. It was a great experience. I met some amazing people and decided to keep teaching. I spent some time in Akita, too.
Then I went to Europe. I travelled, and got my CELTA in Hungary. After that, I came back to Melbourne and taught in a language school, teaching adult students from all over Europe, South America and Asia.
Then I went back to Japan! I taught in kindergartens, schools, colleges, companies and private lessons for children and adults. I lived in Gifu for a while, and in Hiroshima for a few years.
I also became a speaking examiner for Cambridge English children’s exams. I worked with some fantastic people, both children and adults.
Now I’m back in Australia and I miss my students in Japan. That’s why I’ve come to Cafetalk. Let’s have fun studying and speaking together!
Teaching Style
My teaching style responds to your needs. You can follow a set structure with lessons focusing on specific skills, i.e. reading, writing, listening and of course, speaking. Or you can choose a freer style of lesson, like free talk, or something completely different. Do you want to work on a speech? Do you want to learn a song in English for karaoke? Do you want to focus on your pronunciation? Let’s do it!
Whatever kind of lesson you choose, these three things will be true.
