Hello, Learners of Japanese!
I am a Japanese-English bilingual, born in Japan, raised in both Japan and the USA. I am now living in Toronto, ON, Canada permanently. My teaching experience goes over 20 years: teaching Japanese in the USA, Australia and Canada, and ESL in Japan and Australia. My teaching style and methodology are grounded in the education I received: Bachlor of Arts in Linguistices (incl Japanese Teaching Method), Bachelor of Education (ESL and Japanese teaching). My teaching, therefore, is a culmination of these qualifications, the ample experience and my personality.
Tailor-making is the core principle of my lessons. My attention at the initial stage focuses on figuring out the student's purpose of learning Japanese, past knowledge/experience/exposure to Japanese, existing skills in speaking, reading, writing, listening, learning styles and tendencies (e.g. speaking oriented, slow paced detail oriented, etc.), life styles and subsequent time constraints.
My students then receive a general outline of their program that fit in the desired number of lessons and frequency (minimum 60min once/week recommended). Each chapter introduces a sentence structre, a theme and its relevant vocabulary list. Separate excercises for each chapter can be provided. As students move on, new materials are given on an ongoing basis. My lessons welcome spontaneous requests for a different theme or topic and students can keep reviewing any part as long as they need to.
Let's widen the horizon of life by learning a language well! I have done that myself - Spanish, French, Swahili! Japanese is exciting especially in the prospect of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics!
