Hello! My name is Dominique Ho Farris. My Chinese name is San San so please feel free to call me by that name, as I am called "San" by family and friends!
I was born in Vancouver, Canada to a Chinese mother and American father and grew up in Seattle, Washington. I started piano lessons at the age of 7 and began competing a year later. I regularly competed all the way through high school and university, winning many 1st place awards. While attending McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, I was a nationalist 1st place winner for Quebec.
Besides being a classically-trained pianist, not only do I teach piano, but I am also a composer, singer and choir director.
I tutor, edit and proofread English and have done so for more than 20 years. I have worked with both students who are not native English-speakers and those who are. Being an avid reader, I truly enjoy the English language!
Although English is my first language, I am proficient in Cantonese and can converse conversationally in Mandarin, Spanish and French.
If you are wanting to improve your English grammar, speaking skills or writing skills, I will be more than happy to work with you. I am a stickler for detail but am very patient with a good sense of humor.
Having moved to the Philippines from the U.S., I have to say I thoroughly enjoy Filipino culture and cuisine. I have lived in Taguig (a suburb of Manila) for the last ten years and it has been truly wonderful.
As to hobbies, I love cooking, reading, (a few of my favorite authors being Leo Tolstoy, Henry James, Daphne du Maurier, and James Clavell), foreign films ("Spirited Away," "Farewell, My Concubine," "Le Grand Bleu," "La Belle Epoque," to name a few!), and listening to a wide variety of music genres!
Thank you for your interest and I look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely yours,
San
