Hello! My name is Van, and I'm pleased to meet you.
I was born in the Philippines, and I have lived in California, USA since I was 8 years old. I have a Master's degree in Business Administration, and I own an e-commerce business. I have over 20 years of experience in giving trainings and learning seminars, and I have been teaching English since I became TEFL/TESOL certified in 2018.
My American dad moved our family to the United States when I was very young, and my mother study very hard to learn English and pass her citizenship exam. I remember how much joy she had studying English, so I only wish to help my students experience some of the same joy she had.
I love music so I started playing the guitar in 2021. I also love to cook, read, play chess and video games, discuss current events, and watch sports. I also love to travel, and I dream of moving to another country. Most of all, I like to meet new people and learn about different cultures and customs. I live with my long time partner, my son and my daughter.
I have found that teaching English as a foreign language helps me learn about other countries and people, so this is more an exchange of knowledge that I highly appreciate. If you ever take my conversation course, I may ask you many questions!
My goal during lessons is to make them fun and interesting while the student learns. I do this with using the student's interests and hobbies, blending in conversation, using presentations that I have created, and various practice exercises.
I have taught at all skill levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced), children and adults, verbal and written. Business English is my specialty, but I have also taught children.
I teach in full English; this may be a challenge at first, but I will teach at the student's pace. This challenges the student to learn by hearing, by seeing, and verbally; using multiple senses helps them learn faster in the long run. I usually provide the student with custom exercises to help them practice after each lesson.
I am confident that after just a few lessons together, you will see improvement while having fun!
And of course, I am happy to customize lessons and I take requests. Just ask!
