Hello everybody!  My name is Marie Antoinette Villena and my friends call me Toni.  I live in the Philippines where the joke is that we have two weather systems:  HOT or HOTTER or WET and MORE WET! 

I have been a business English trainer/tutor for the past 6 years.  Prior to this, I worked in the corporate world for the past 20 years. My experience range from banking to entrepreneurship to retail operations.  I became an English trainer quite by accident.  Being an English trainer was actually the last thing on my mind  but I do love talking and meeting different kinds of people especially when I was in the retail industry.  And, through a nice twist of fate, I end up being a trainer.  I must say, I love every minute of it!

I am actually an introvert but I do love to socialize with a small group of friends.  I enjoy listening to them and we have a lot of fun together.  I enjoy shopping, eating is a passion and I love to discover new restaurants.  I miss watching movies in the theater because of the pandemic.  I am a certified scuba diver and am raring to go diving again where it’s very relaxing to be underwater and see the beauty of the sea.  Also, I am a fur mom to 3 Chihuhas - Cooper, George, and Zoey.  I love animals and am passionate about animal rights.


I graduated from Ateneo de Manila University, one of the top ranked universities in the Philippines where I took Management, major in Legal Management.  Thus, I have background in both English and law.  This has proven to be very helpful to me at work and in life especially when I have negotiations.  I have experience in various departments in the bank, opened my own small business and moved  to retail operations after my business closed.  All these fields and experiences allowed me to gain knowledge that I can pass on to you!

 

With over 6 years teaching business English, I have become flexible when it comes to training people coming from diverse background and nationalities.  I enjoy interacting with university students, business professionals, enthusiasts in various fields and others who simply want to chat away. I believe that communicating and sharing experiences will be beneficial for both the tutor and student as can we can learn from one another.  I enjoy interacting with people from various countries as I have a keen interest in learning more about their culture and for them to learn about mine.  I make my lessons casual, fun and relatable because I firmly believe that we absorb knowledge  faster when we have fun in the process.  I love to talk about various subjects especially about lifestyle, pop culture,  pets, travel, technology and musings about life and I can even offer some life advice.


Whether you are a beginner or someone who is simply wants to practice and develop his/her English skills, I will be more than happy to partner with you so you can achieve your goals.  Let’s have fun communicating with each other.  A bonus is that we also learn along the way.   You will come out of the experience with more confidence in yourself and that’s priceless.
