Hello,
My name is Séan. I am from Norwich in England but live in Fukushima in Japan. I have been teaching English for 5 years and have experience with all lesson styles and age groups.
About me:
I was born and raised in Norwich, England but live in Koriyama in Fukushima, Japan.
In my free time, I like to play guitar and make music. I like all sorts of music and am always searching for new styles. I am also a fan of football (soccer) and like to watch or play whenever I get the chance. To be honest, I'm interested in most things and enjoy talking with others about most activities.
I attended university in Plymouth where I studied Music Production. During this time, I taught guitar lessons where I met lots of different types of people. When I decided to move to Japan in 2017, I realised I wanted to continue teaching.
Of course, I love travelling too. When I lived in England, it was very easy to travel around Europe and I've visited many European countries but I would definitely like to see more of Japan and other Asian countries.
Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching in Japan for 5 years. I worked at an Eikawa style school where I taught classes of up to 5 students. These classes were designed to encourage conversation and were based on different situations. I also taught man-to-man lessons which focused on studying for tests such as TOEIC, TOEFL and IELTS. These lessons were face-to-face and online.
With the same company, I taught at a kindergarten and a high school, both schools having classes of up to 40 students.
I also taught business lessons, teaching either conversational or test-focused lessons to company staff.
As a result, I have experience teaching all ages starting from as young as 2 years old and have taught a wide range of lesson types, using different styles and techniques.
Before moving to Japan, I completed the 140-hour TEFL training course.
Teaching style:
All lessons contain original material written by me. They are designed to be fun and encourage conversation. They cover a broad range of topics and will allow you to express your thoughts and opinions.
Each lesson focuses on using natural language to help you express yourself in different situations. Each exercise is designed to focus on specific communication skills with a chance to use them together at the end of the lesson. With an easy-to-follow lesson structure, you'll have plenty of opportunity to practice and ask questions along the way.
Each lesson’s structure is as follows:
0-5 mins: Warm-Up
This is a chance to get to know each other, catch-up or discuss anything else you may want. This time will help you warm-up and get used to speaking English again.
5-10 mins: Intro Question
The topic is introduced with a question. This helps us gauge your ability to talk about the chosen topic.
10-15 mins: Dialogue
Here we can see example answers to the Intro Question with the target language being introduced in context. This section is used to focus on comprehension and pronunciation.
15-20 mins: Target Language
This section looks at the structure of the target language and offers new vocabulary and phrases.
20-30 mins: Exercises
These exercises allow you to practice using the newly learned language in different situations.
30-40 mins: Roleplay
Here, we return back to the intro question and answer it again. Hopefully, you should feel a lot more equipped to answer the question naturally and confidently. The conversation can then flow and continue onto other subjects.
