Japanese Ranked 53rd in English

Tracy R.

Hello Everyone!

I'm sure many have read about the results of the English proficiency survey that is done annually for countries that use English as a second language. You can read about it here: https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2019/11/09/national/japanese-ranked-53rd-english-skills-annual-worldwide-survey/#.XclRgVVKjX4

I find the most interesting thing the age of those who are most proficient. Take a look at that section; it's at the very end of the article. What do you think that means? Why do you think that the most proficient speakers are in their late 20's? Do you think that high school graduates should be ranked higher? I'd love to talk to some Japanese about this so please feel free to come and have a chat with me or leave your comments below! :)

Have a wonderful day~!

Hi Tracy, Let me share my thoughts. Those in their late 20s are the last generations that received the conventional education before students got some slack called “Yutori education”. Secondly, they were new employees when many Japanese companies started talking about entering overseas markets so that they must’ve felt the need of English proficiency firsthand, prompting them to study the language. By the way, thanks for your interesting live seminars. I enjoy them. Have a nice day!
