New year, new me!

Viri

Happy new year everyone! I hope you welcomed the 2020 together with your loved ones.

Each culture has a different tradition for the holidays. Argentina, for example, which traditions are heavily influenced by spanish and italian cultures, exists the custom of eating twelve grapes, one for each bell ring at 00 hours of January 1st, a tradition we received from Spain.

Likewise, some people choose white for their clothes and combine it with golden, as some kind of symbolism of a new year that begins, a blank canvas to paint whatever you want.

Other people choose their underwear color acording to what they wish for the next year.

Interesting practices, huh?

Living in Japan I learnt that here there's the tradition of ringing the bell at buddist temples, luck draw (or "omikuji") at the early hours or days of the new year, and typical food like osechi or otokoshi soba during this holiday.

In your case, which are the usual traditions in your country?
